Mission Impossible

Today is the feast day of the conversion of St. Paul. You may remember the famous story of his encounter with Jesus. Well, God knocked him off his horse and struck him blind. Paul heard a voice saying “Saul, Saul, Why do you persecute me?” Paul, who was formerly called Saul, was a Roman who hunted down Christians and killed them for the Roman government. He was a legend in his own time, and feared by Christians. At the same time, a Christian named Ananias heard the voice of God tell him to minister to Saul to get his eyesight back. You can read up on the story here or you can go to the book of Acts in the Bible and read the account at Acts. 22:3-16, or Acts. 9:1-22.

A TIME AND A SEASON

“People came to Jesus with the objection, ‘Why do John’s disciples and those of the Pharisees fast while Yours do not?’ ” —Mark 2:18

The people in today’s Gospel reading thought it was time to fast, although it was time to feast. They had the right idea but the wrong time. You may be doing something appropriate to the way things were twenty years ago but inadequate for the present. For example, if you send your children to the school you attended in your own youth, you may be making a big mistake. That school had its time, but possibly its time is not now, if you want your children to be followers of Jesus.

Annual Indiana March for Life & Memorial Mass – Jan. 22

Indiana March For Life & Prayer Vigil – Marc Tuttle, President of Right to Life Indianapolis talks with Faith In Action co-hosts, Brigid Ayer and Kent Blandford about the Annual Indiana March for Life and the events surrounding it. A memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist at 10:30am Friday, Jan. 22 followed by the Annual Indiana March for Life. On the eve of the March, a Prayer Vigil will take place Thursday, Jan. 21 at St. Elizabeth Seton, Carmel, IN from 7pm-9pm. The event is free.
